Is our society so, sorry mom cover your ears, "Pussyfied" that we cant take a joke or even a little ribbing without having to get the authorities involved. Boulder, Co. has taken it to new lenghts with the installation of the new "Hate Hotline." Yes you can murder your 4 year old daughter in Boulder, Co., refuse to answer police questions and get away with it, but if you tell a racist joke or make fun of the baptists, the citizens of Boulder will "tell on you."

Pantera – The Best Of 05.17.06

I'll be honest. I got this album the other night because I got sucked into one of those VH1's Behind The Music episodes. I have always been kind of a fan of Pantera. But I never really gave their music too much of a listen beyond the 5 or 6 songs that were actually popular. Darrell Abbott has always been kind of a favorite musician of mine. When I was younger and played guitar, I tried to model the sound of my guitars after his. I even had the Korg G3 effects board to make it sound just like him. It did sound like him, but my talent was no where near his.
After watching the behind the music episode the other day, I got anoter hankerin' for some Pantera…so BOOM, instant gratification, I went and got "Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys Vulagar Hits." It's kind of a play on words. This album is the best of their "Cowboys From Hell", "Far Beyond Driven", "The Great Southern Trendkill", and "Vulgar Display of Power." So you really get a good taste of what they are all about. I give it the ole, 5 star rating. Highly recommended. But be warned… this isnt "feel good lets get some ice cream and take a walk with the wife" music. This is more or less "dammit we're out of ice cream and the wife wants me to cut the grass again" music.
Unfortunatley, Darrell Abbott was shot and killed on December 8, 2004. Which is really too bad for the music world. Pantera can be attributed with keeping the "Heavey Metal" scene alive during the 90's "Grudge" craze and on through today. I'll be the first to admit, most "Heavy Metal" is nothing more than screaming and loud guitars having little or no talent what so ever, but I wont say that about Pantera. This band was a tight unit musically and really explored some new ground when everyone else wanted to put on a flannel shirt and do the same thing that folks out of Seattle pioneered.
Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornel and Kurt Cobain were geniuses as well in their own right. But I think that is as far as the grudge scene went with originality. Everyone else just kind of copied them.
Not All Blondes Are Dumb 05.04.06

Two bored casino dealers are waiting at the crap table. A very attractive blonde woman from South Mississippi arrived and bet twenty-thousand dollars
($20,000) on a single roll of the dice.
She said, "I hope you don't mind, but I feel much luckier when I play topless." With that, she stripped to the waist, rolled the dice and yelled, "Come on, baby, Southern Girl needs new clothes!"
As the dice came to a stop she jumped up and down and squealed… "YES!
YES !! I WON, I WON!" She hugged each of the dealers and then picked up her winnings and her clothes and quickly departed.
The dealers stared at each other dumbfounded.
Finally, one of them asked, "What did she roll?" The other answered, "I don't know – I thought you were watching."

I'm sure you have all heard of this great sacrifice our Government is willing to make to help ease the high price of gasoline…
"Senate Republicans have proposed giving U.S. taxpayers a $100 check to offset high gasoline prices, and suspending some federal taxes."
Why not just drop the .25 cents per gallon federal tax? That may help people. But that's not the same as a "free" $100 check. Free huh?! Why give the taxpayers a $100 check from a tax payer funded account only to have it taxed again at the end of the year?

Isnt it weird how hearing certain things can take you back to different places from your past. In my mind it is always music that does it for me. I dont know why, I guess music was a just a very big influence on my life growing up.
This morning on the way to work, i put my iPod on 80's Hard Rock and let it play. Hearing song after song reminded me of so many things growing up in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Things at the time I thought were "hardships", but upon looking back at them now they are just plain funny. Girls, cars, friends, summer jobs, etc… I remeber waking up around 10:30 or 11:00 in the morning. Usually because I was trying to recover from staying out to 2 or 3 the night before. I can remember the smell of the neighborhood I grew up in. The sights and sounds of the places I would go on a regular basis. I can remember skipping school and riding around with Mike all day. Listening to some of those very songs. Getting caught skipping school and listening to those same songs. I can remember thinking I was cool blasting those same songs out of my first car. It wasnt much but it was MINE.
Yeah those songs bring back some good memories. I cant wait for the drive home today.

Neleah is finally coming home. She has been with Nana and Pap for the past two weeks. Its hard to believe she will be two years old this Saturday. We are having a petting zoo come to the house for her party. We got her a special surprise, her very own "Moonwalk". Which of course I had to test out all week…to make sure it is safe.;) My neighbors think im a 33 year old child. But then again, most of you did as well.

I have been waiting for this album for 5 years. And it was well worth it. Tool does not disappoint in this one. Danny Carrey is still the master of drums. Some of the things he does is just inconceivable. Tool stay true to their sound in this one and the meanings to the songs are just as deep as they ever were. Highlights: Vicarious, Jambi, The Pot. Check it out.
